The biggest problem faced by parents these days is the disinterest of their child in studies. We blame the lifestyle and over indulgence in other things that lead to the lost interest of the child in his curriculum. But in reality, it is not this factor that pushes the child away from his books. What actually does this is the way we are teaching them to study. With the rising pressure to do well, we are not allowing them to explore the subjects further than what is given on the book. We just expect them to mug up what ever is there and get good grades, even if they do not learn much.
This approach is something that needs to be done away with. We need to understand the importance of learning more than just getting good grades. The school, parents everyone focuses on just the grades. This kind of pressure draws the child away from books. The idea is to help the child develop interest in his subjects and deal with them with eagerness and curiosity. This is possible only when the curriculum is simplified and they start enjoying the study activity.
In order to create interest in children for studies and learning new things, we can encourage group study. This is highly beneficial when the children get together and solve mathematical problems or conduct scientific experiments. When one child faces trouble solving a particular problem, the other one comes up with a solution and hence they help each other and enjoy the learning activity with togetherness and fun. Group study also helps the poor students to understand theories with the help of their classmates. Children benefit a great deal by sharing knowledge and helping one another.
We can also help the children overcome the fear of math, with the help of some games and activities which involve calculations. This is a great way to teach math in the most subdued manner. When we encourage them to play games real time or online, we should keep in mind that we allow them to tackle the problems themselves rather than pressurizing them to do it. If we put any kind of pressure they are surely to lose interest. When you are providing help on math at that time also involve them in a very subdued manner so that they are eager to get to the problem and resolve it with some help.
