Strangest Endangered Animals
With numerous species of birds and animals across the globe, it is impossible to give proper attention to each in terms of saving their population and their natural habitat. Most of these tiny or big creatures are losing their natural habitat and are on the verge of extinction. Let us look at some of these freaky weird animals that are listed among the strangest animals endangered in the world.
The Solenodon is a strange mammal found in Hispanola and Cuba. It is cute and appears like an over grown hedgehog. It is the only mammal that injects poison through its teeth. The animal can be easily annoyed and gets ready to attack at the smallest instance of it sensing danger. It is both insectivorous and carrion feeder. These were thought to be completely extinct but a few of these were found to be alive a few years ago.
The Aye Aye is yet another strange creature that has something in common with the bats. They are the only mammals of the world that depend on echolocation for their hunting. These live in round shaped nests which have small holes for both entry and exit. The animal uses its thin and long finger to find and eat insects from trees. It sometimes even scoops out the insects in large numbers. It has unusually large ears and eyes. One look at these strange animals is often considered to be a bad omen.
Another animal is the Dugong, a look alike of the manatee, related closely to the elephant. It is a unique animal because it has a tail that is split and it can perch on it while sitting underwater so that it can keep its head outside water. These are believed to have some inspirations from the myths of mermaids. These animals are usually hunted for their oil, meat, bones and skin.
