When purchasing a new article of jewellery, there are a lot of things that need to be decided by the purchaser. This is true with ALL articles of jewellery. A lot of people can be tricked by this. For example, when you are purchasing something simple, such as a very slim strand necklace, you might think that this is an extremely minimal piece of jewellery that cannot really have much impact on your overall style, and that therefore you can just go ahead and purchase something without putting in the effort to coordinate it with your existing wardrobe – however, this is not true in the least, as the simplest pieces usually tend to say the most.
Let us examine that example further, in fact – the necklace. At first glance, there would seem to be only one decision to make regarding a necklace, and that is what metal it should be made out of. This may be the only decision, but do not underestimate the importance of it, because a gold necklace sends an entirely different message from a silver necklace. Gold, as we all know, is an extremely “selfish” metal – it tends to attract the attention of casual observers, because of its flash and panache.
A silver chain, by contrast, is a lot more subtle, and can be used to blend into an outfit. This is something that cannot usually be done with gold, because gold is far louder than silver – even when it comes to simple things, such as a slim chain. Ultimately, the only person who can make the decision between gold and silver is you – you are the person who will be wearing the chain, and so it must suit your tastes, and your personal dressing style. Even though it may seem like a very simple and minor decision to make, the fact is that it can have a hugely varying impact depending on which metal you choose to go with. Remember a silver sterling necklace will be easier on the pocket book and will accompany pretty much any outfit, never going out of style. As always in the world of jewellery, there is no right answer – there is only your answer.
